Heads of students councils of Independent Schools with Fawzia Al-Khater, Director of Education Institute at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, during their first meeting this academic year.
Heads of students councils of the Independent Schools recently held their first meeting since the beginning of this academic year with Fawzia Al-Khater, Director of Education Institute at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and shared their views and suggestions on improving the quality of education.
As representatives of students in all independent schools, the chairs of the council were asked to share their opinions and suggestions regarding the teaching and learning process in the Independent Schools.
During the meeting attended by Khalifa Al Dirham, Director of School Affairs at the ministry, the Director of Education Institute listened to a number of issues raised by the students.
Their concerns included long duration of lessons, lack of outdoor lessons as well as educational activities.
Some of the students suggested that the ministry needs to reconsider the summary of topics being distributed to students prior to the tests, as well to review the maximum number of subjects allowed in the enrichment classes.
Students asked for development of streaming in high school level to become more specialised.
The director of Education Institute answered queries from the students and promised to study issues raised by them and their recommendations .
Qatar is keen to enhance the role of its citizens and build their capacities acquiring necessary knowledge and skills they need in the future said Al-Khater, emphasising the importance of dialogue, listening to each other, and becoming models to their peer students. "This is the first meeting with student’s representatives and we are going to make it regular in order to listen to student’s suggestions and opinions about the education process," said Khalifa Al Dirham.
He added that one of the aims of the student’s councils is to enhance dialogue and develop their skills to express their opinion and contribute to the process of education development.
