The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) and Youth Hobbies Center will launch the Sports Photography Programme tomorrow at Katara Cultural Village at 6:30 pm. Open to all and free to attend, the SC and Youth Hobbies Center are encouraging all recreational, amateur and professional photographers in Qatar to attend and take part in the fun.
The highlight of the event will see the SC and the Youth Hobbies Center announce the winners of last week’s Sports Photography Competition. The top three entries from over 90 participants will be revealed and an exhibition showcasing both the best sports images submitted during the competition and the evolution of sports photography around the world will also be unveiled which will let attendees re-live iconic sporting moments in a fun and insightful setting. Some of Qatar’s leading sports personalities will also be at the event to allow amateur photographers to practice taking their own sports photography shots.
The SC and Youth Hobbies Center will further use the event to reveal their long term capacity building initiative commencing in January 2017: the Sports Photography Programme. This initiative – the first of its kind in the GCC – will support the development of Qatar’s passionate amateur photography community through practical sessions delivered by one of the world’s leading photography agencies and a world renowned university, both of whom will be revealed at the launch event.
Ambitious amateur photographers should attend tomorrow's launch to see firsthand what the Programme has to offer. The SC, Youth Hobbies Center and their partners will be running workshops immediately after the event and every evening thereafter until November 19, providing attendees with all the tips, tricks and techniques to begin their journey to become world-class photographers.
Speaking ahead of the event, SC Community Engagement Manager, Khalid Al Jumaily, said: “Qatar has a growing amateur photography scene that we’re eager to support through this initiative. There’s already a great deal of talent within this community but we want to help this talent grow with professional training from our world-class partners. Come 2022, the eyes of the world will be on Qatar and we want a team of homegrown photographers ready to showcase Qatar, its people and its sporting passion to the world.”
Abdulrahman Al Hajri, General Manager of the Youth Hobbies Center, said: “The Youth Hobbies Center is pleased to host this event and I encourage all of Qatar’s would-be photographers to attend to pick up new skills."
