Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has dispatched fresh humanitarian aid worth QR1m to internally displaced people in Mosul city of Iraq.
More than 27,000 people fighting for survival due to unrest in their country have benefitted from the project.
The project was financed by people (citizens and expatriates) in Qatar as donations.
The aid includes baskets of basic food items. The food baskets were distributed to displaced families in Al Khazir camp in Irbil, Amiriyat Al Falluja camps, 18kelo camps in Al Anbar, camps in the villages and outskirts of Al Sharqat governorate in Baja, Al Khasam and Al Sabkha areas.
The project aims at providing basic foodstuffs to families especially those displaced recently due ongoing battle. The figure is increasing day-by-day with the influx of displaced families.
The basic foodstuffs were provided to 5,000 displaced families comprising about 25,000 people. At least 420 poor families including widows and orphans also received 2,100 food baskets.
A total of 5,420 families comprising 27,100 members have benefitted from the project.
The project intended to provide basic food items to newly displaced families, widows and orphans among others who faced severe poverty due to lack of source of income.
The project was implemented in collaboration with Mubaderon organization for relief and development, RAF’s local partner in Iraq. The organization conducted a survey to assess the needs of beneficiary families. Then, essential food items were distributed to these camps through a coupon system.
“Displaced families have left whatever they had at their homes,” said Muwaffaq Yasin Al Mashhadani, Chairman of Mubaderon organization.
They are hapless people. We appreciate RAF for extending its helping hand to rescue these people. It is not new for RAF. It has been supporting to displaced families across Iraq, said Al Mashhadani.
