Afghan police show suspects and packs of heroine which were confiscated during an operation, in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, yesterday. Afghan police seized the drugs when smugglers were trying to transport them to neighbouring Pakistan. Afghanistan is still listed as the world’s largest opium producer, although the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in a report in December 2014 said that the cultivation area for opium poppy in Myanmar and Laos has increased for the eighth consecutive year, to now 63,800 hectares making Myanmar Southeast Asia’s top opium producer.
