Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Home Healthcare Service (HHCS) will implement the new Clinical Information System on Sunday.
HHCS will replace its paper patient clinical records system with a new electronic Clinical Information System (CIS) as part of a planned roll-out across HMC and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC).
Once CIS implementation is complete, all patient records will be stored and accessed electronically across both organisations.
The roll-out follows successful CIS implementation in eight HMC hospitals, paediatric emergency centres, dialysis centres, Bone and Joint Centre and PHCC’s health centres across the country. The CIS is a comprehensive system-wide implementation designed in collaboration with clinicians. As this is a large project, HMC expects there will be a period of transition, during which staff and patients will adjust to the new system. Staff will need to gather more information from patients to register them in the new system and this may mean that visits take a little longer than usual.
The importance of an electronic medical records system was set out in the National Health Strategy launched in 2011 and HMC and PHCC launched the CIS programme in 2012
