Doha, Qatar: The Center for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan) one of the centres operating under the umbrella of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work has launched its summer programme, “Our Summer is a Blessing”, aimed at enriching the summer experience of senior women through a wide range of educational, recreational, and wellness activities.
The programme will run from July 26 to August 5 at the Ehsan Club in Izghawa, offering participants an engaging environment that combines learning, entertainment, and opportunities to enhance their overall quality of life.
The initiative reflects the centre’s commitment to delivering specialised programmes that promote psychological and social well-being, develop life and creative skills, and reinforce the concept of active ageing through integrated activities tailored to the needs of older persons while encouraging their active participation in society.
The programme features a diverse schedule of activities, including arts and creative workshops, awareness lectures, health and sports sessions, field visits, cultural and educational experiences, as well as specialised workshops on digital skills and the use of modern technology. These activities are designed to enhance participants’ independence and help them keep pace with today’s digital world.
In addition, the programme aims to strengthen social bonds among participants by encouraging meaningful interaction and engagement in purposeful activities that build confidence, develop personal abilities, and highlight the valuable experience and talents of senior women in a safe and supportive environment.
Commenting on the initiative, Manal Ahmed Al Manai, Executive Director of Ehsan Center, said the programme represents one of the centre’s flagship initiatives, reflecting its belief in the importance of providing integrated programmes that enrich the lives of older persons and address their social, cultural, and health needs while improving their quality of life and well-being.
She stressed that investing in senior citizens is an investment in experience, values, and community identity. The centre, she said, is committed to designing innovative programmes that provide opportunities for lifelong learning, skills development, and greater social engagement, reinforcing the role of older persons as active partners in Qatar’s development.
Al Manai added that the “Our Summer is a Blessing” programme builds on the centre’s ongoing efforts to deliver sustainable initiatives aligned with the state’s vision for improving quality of life and promoting active ageing. The programme also supports the objectives of the National Strategy for Older Persons and reaffirms the centre’s commitment to providing pioneering services and programmes that generate a lasting positive impact for this valued segment of society.
The programme will conclude with a recognition ceremony celebrating the participants and showcasing the programme’s achievements and the creative work of the senior women, underscoring the importance of empowering older persons and highlighting their vital contribution to society.
The Ehsan Centre affirmed that the initiative embodies its vision of enhancing the quality of life of older persons through sustainable programmes that promote health and well-being, encourage community participation, and make the most of their accumulated experience as a key pillar of sustainable development, in line with the National Strategy for Older Persons and Qatar National Vision 2030.
