Beijing: The General Assembly of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities yesterday elected unanimously Attorney-General H E Dr Ali bin Fetais Al Marri as President of IAACA.
The election took place at IAACA’s final meeting in Tianjin, China. Dr Al Marri succeeds his Chinese counterpart Cao Jianming.
In a statement, Dr Al Marri expressed gratitude for the trust put in him by IAACA members and said it reflected confidence in Qatar and recognition of its initiatives in the field of anti-corruption.
He said the international community’s confidence in the Emir’s support to efforts towards combating corruption is the main reason for Qatar’s election as IAACA president.
He also highlighted Qatar’s support to fighting corruption and outlined initiatives — extending a helping hand and enhancing awareness through the fight against corruption as a subject in local and international universities in the country.
Dr Al Marri said IAACA will pursue a new way in the fight against corruption at international level and urged all states to become parties to IAACA in line with the United Nations Convention Against Corruption. Cao congratulated Dr Al Marri and wished him success.
