Doha: A Turkish fabric symbolically linked to the Silk Road has been first launched in Qatar as part of a project under the patronage of Dr Sare Davutoglu, wife of Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
The historical Kutnu fabric was reintroduced to the world as the fabric of peace on Tuesday at The Ritz-Carlton Doha.
‘Reflect Your Light with Kutnu’ invited the world to unite for peace. Emphasising the importance of living peacefully and in unity, the project is to be launched in several countries after Qatar, as part of the motto ‘Turkey — Discover the Potential’.
Kutnu fabric is the embodiment of unique values of a powerful history. It conveys the marks of the Silk Road which is symbolically the path of unity and interaction of cultures without racial, religious, and linguistic discrimination.
Passing from Anatolian Seljuks to Ottomans, Kutnu finds life on the looms of craftsmen of Gaziantep today. Kutnu is repositioned as the fabric of all times with the collection created by Turkish fashion designer Rabia Yalçin. The unique collection of 45 looks can be seen as an intercultural bridge between the past and future. Yalçin said she went far beyond fashion and out of limits because Kutnu is too special a fabric to be constrained. “Kutnu is timeless. Just like various cultures, Kutnu has been embraced for centuries, I brought different items together with Kutnu in the collection. I combined Kutnu with leather, chiffon, and velvet. ”
She added: “Everything was in perfect harmony. Women who wear Kutnu will feel its power, uniqueness and timelessness”
The show about this collection debuted ‘Reflect Your Light with Kutnu’ project and was organised in association with Turkish Exporters Assembly and support of Turkish Embassy in Doha. Besides delegates from Turkey, ministers, diplomats, businessmen, journalists, fashionista from Qatar and the region attended the premiere.
