Consumer Price Index rises 3.4 percent in April over last year

DOHA: The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for April 2016 has showed an increase of 3.4 percent compared to the same month last year.
Statistical data issued by the Ministry of Development Planning & Statistics (MDPS) showed that the CPI for April, 2016 increased on a year-on-year basis by 3.4 percent and month-on-month basis by 0.1 percent compared to April 2015. CPI for April 2016 is estimated at 107.7, showing a slight increase month-on-month basis of 0.1 percent compared to CPI of March 2016.
An analysis of month-on-month basis of CPI for April, 2016 compared with March, 2016, where indices of four main groups of commodities have showed respective increase this month, namely: “Food and Beverages” by 1.4 percent, “Miscellaneous Goods and Services” by 0.6 percent, “Clothing and Footwear” by 0.2 percent, and “Recreation and Culture” by 0.1 percent.
Compared to the same period last year, the CPI indices showed a decline in prices of other groups such as “Restaurants and Hotels” by 1.1percent, “Health” by 0.9percent, “Housing, Water, Electricity and Gas” and “Communication” by 0.1percent each. Prices of other commodities and service like “Tobacco”, “Furniture and Household Equipment”, “Transport, and “Education” have remained flat at last month’s price level.
