Fruit prices dip but vegetables became dearer in February

DOHA: Prices of fruits declined five percent in Doha-Central Market in February compared to January this year, but vegetables and fish became expensive 15 and 22 percent respectively in the period of study.

Fish prices went up significantly last month due to unfavourable weather for fish catch like wind and rain, said a report issued by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce.

But prices of vegetables increased only one percent in January 2017 compared to January 2016.

Prices of tomato, Kusa and garlic increased. However, the prices of potato, onion and cauliflower declined. Ginger, carrot, lettuce, capsicum, cabbage, eggplant and cucumber were stable. The prices of vegetables increased 15 percent last month compared to previous month.

Prices fruits declined seven percent in February 2017 compared to the corresponding period last year. But according to month-on-month report, the prices of fruits went down five percent in last month compared to the previous month.

Fish price declined eight percent in February 2017 compared to the corresponding period last year. But the prices of fish went up 22 percent in February compared to January this year.
