BAGHDAD: Two people were killed Saturday in a roadside bomb blast in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, according to an Iraqi police officer.

The bomb exploded near a local marketplace in southern Baghdad’s al-Rashid district, killing two people and injuring seven others, police captain Nazhan al-Khidr told Anadolu Agency.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast, though Iraqi authorities often blame the IS terrorist group for similar attacks.

IS has overrun vast swathes of territory in northern and western Iraq in 2014.

In late October, the Iraqi army launched a major offensive to recapture Mosul, once Iraq’s second largest city in terms of population, from the terrorist group.
