Doha: Minister of Sports and Youth H E Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali stressed that the slogan for this year’s Qatar National Day ‘Our Unity is the Source of Our Strength’ expresses the values and principles of the National Day represented in promoting loyalty, solidarity, unity and pride in the Qatari national identity by highlighting the values of the authentic Qatari society and introducing the young generation to values of loyalty and unity through events and highlighting Qatari heritage and history.

In an inclusive statement to QNA, the  Minister of Sports and Youth said that this year’s motto emphasises love and devotion to the homeland and work for its development, which is what the Ministry seeks to achieve through its vision of ‘Active and Responsible Youth With Patriotic Sense.’ On the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 finale coinciding with the celebration of the country’s National Day, he pointed out that assigning the State of Qatar to organise a major tournament the size of the World Cup is an explicit international recognition of its ability to organise the tournament well, which requires enormous capabilities by the host country, not only in stadiums and accommodation, but also in its entire infrastructure, as well as the necessary level of services, security and safety, and the availability of capabilities and human energies to organise and manage this huge event.

The Minister of Sports and Youth added that without doubt, the World Cup can be considered one of the most important events that will leave a significant national legacy, stressing that Qatar would not have attained this international status and global appreciation had it not been for the efforts and sacrifices made by successive generations that joined forces to build a strong, modern state.

As for the sports sector, the Minister of Sports and Youth stated that the preparation of the national sports policy, the development of the licensing system to practice activities, and the launch of Sport Excellence Awards have been completed.

He praised the achievements made by the Ministry of Sports and Youth to create an athletic environment that motivates society to practice sports and empower youth to enhance their contributions in building the nation, based on the strategic results and goals for sports and youth within the Second National Development Strategy 2018- 2022 and the specialities of the Ministry.   In the youth sector, he pointed out that the Ministry has implemented many important youth programs and projects, including the completion of the National Youth Policy Document, which is expected to contribute to drawing up the State’s general policy and enhancing the role of youth in achieving Qatar Vision 2030.

In this regard, he explained that work has been done to amend the basic systems of the majority of youth centres to activate the role of public assemblies and the transition to the election system for the administration of youth centres, in addition to launching the Excellence Award in Youth Work to raise performance levels, create competition and improve quality in youth institutions and implementing the 2nd version of the youth ambassador program to enable Qatari youth to acquire the necessary skills to represent the State of Qatar in international forums.

The Minister said that among the most prominent programmes undertaken by the Ministry is the establishment of the Qatar Youth Council and the programme to organise the 14th Robotics Championship for schools in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Arab Robotics and AI Association, in addition to the inauguration of the new HQ for Qatar Youth Hostels in September 2022, as well as the launch of the Get Ready programme in cooperation with the Qatar Career Development Center.
