He was appointed Minister of Labour and Social Affairs on June 26, 2013. He was Member of the Executive Bureau of the International Association of Universities (IAU). He was the Chairman of the Committee on the Constitution and also Chancellor of the University of Qatar (1998-2003). He started his career as Assistant Professor at the University of Qatar (1994-1996). He completed his doctorate in economics from Southern Illinois University (Carbondale), US. He was granted a medal by the GCC for his contributions and scientific achievements.
