Doha: Qatar Charity (QC) is building 260 housing units for needy families, students and Imams as part of a ‘Social Housing’ Project in Mauritania.
Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman, Board of Directors, QC, handed over the keys of the first batch of 10 units to families. During an earlier visit to the country, QC started implementing the second batch of 25 units in various areas for preachers and Shariah students.
Each unit includes a living room, a room and a kitchen, over a total area of 43 square metres. The houses are designed according to specifications suitable to the way of living and architecture in Mauritania.
The project provided shelter to 115 students in the Mahdara of Yahtheeh Abdul Wadood in Maymoun village, 90km from capital. Mauritanian and foreign students attend the Mahdara to learn the Holy Quran, Osool Ad-Din, jurisprudence, Hadith, and linguistics.
Housing units for preachers are in Nouakchott, Boutilmit and Rkiz near mosques. The sites were chosen to facilitate their arrival to mosques and attend prayers on time, without having the need to cover long distances. During an earlier visit, Sheikh Hamad and Yousef bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, CEO, QC, handed the keys of the houses to the families in Nouakchott, and Al Rakiz, a district in the southern area some 200km from the capital.
Each unit of the housing project for needy families consists two houses, a toilet and a kitchen, built with from cement and equipped with doors and windows of high qualities. The project cost has reached QR11.07m
During a handover ceremony in Al Rakiz, Sheikh Hamad said, “The project is our way of reinforcing relationship with the Mauritanian people, who are our cousins and brothers in religion.
