DOHA: Members of the Indian and Pakistani communities in Qatar, including senior officials from the Indian Embassy, assembled in large numbers to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr at a special ‘Eid Milan Mushayerah’ organised by Karwan-e-Urdu Qatar.
The inaugural poetry session of the Doha-based literary organisation, at Letoile Hotel on Saturday night, was also attended by prominent businessmen, professionals, poets and Urdu-speaking people from the Indian and Pakistani communities, including Azim Abbas, former president, Indian Business and Professional Network (IBPN); and Dr. Mohammed Aleem, Third Secretary (Labour), Indian Embassy, as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour, respectively.
Also present were members of Karwan-e-Urdu Qatar and its office-bearers, including Ateeq Anzer, Founder President; and Shahid Khan, General Secretary, who convened the event.
Dr Aleem praised the initiative of Karwan-e-Urdu Qatar for organising the event on the eve of Eid Al-Fitr and inviting members of other literary organisations also working for the promotion of Urdu language and literature in Qatar.
He recited a poem composed by Late Dr. Allama Iqbal, famous Urdu poet and philosopher revered in India and Pakistan.
Azim, a veteran Doha-based Indian businessman and Managing Director, Al Sulaiman Jewellery & Watches, pledged his support and cooperation in future for the promotion and development Urdu literature and the organisation, which is run on donations.
On the objective of the organization, Ateeq said: “We have established the organisation with open hearts and minds to welcome all poets, writers and other literary people irrespective of their affiliations and orientation.
“Working together with all Qatar-based literary organisations and individuals in cooperation is the top priority of Karwan-e-Urdu Qatar,” he added.The Peninsula
