Awqaf Minister leads Ministry’s participation in National Sport Day

Doha, Qatar: Under the leadership of H E Sheikh Ghanim bin Shaheen bin Ghanim Al Ghanim, Minister of Awqaf  and Islamic Affairs, the Ministry took part in the National Sport Day 2026 through a series of diverse sporting and health-focused activities held at the Ministry’s sports grounds in Abu Hamour.

Hundreds of staff members, imams, their children, and students from Quran Teaching Centres also joined the celebrations through a wide range of sporting and recreational activities.

The programme included sports competitions such as football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, padel, as well as indoor games including baby foot, billiards, and PlayStation. In addition, fitness activities, running, freestyle wrestling, relay races, and cycling were organised.

Special activities were allocated for children, along with a dedicated corner for girls and women, who were given the opportunity to participate after the Dhuhr prayer, with appropriate organizational and security measures in place to ensure their safety.

Assistant Undersecretary for Da’wah and Mosques Affairs,  Mohammed bin Hamad Al Kuwari affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to full compliance with approved organisational regulations and requirements in implementing the activities.

He highlighted the Ministry’s keenness to design a comprehensive fitness programme that include physical fitness and activity tests, aimed at enhancing participants’ physical readiness and promoting preventive health concepts and an active lifestyle.

He added that the Ministry cooperated with Naseem Healthcare Centre, which set up a dedicated medical tent at the event venue to provide healthcare services and conduct vital measurements for participants, such as blood pressure and blood sugar levels. This ensured a safe and healthy environment for all attendees.
