DOHA: More than 700 healthcare professionals from across Qatar and the world will gather in Doha from January 16 until 18 for the International Conference on Emergency Medicine and Public Health-Qatar (ICEP-Q).
The forum will be held under the patronage of Minister of Public Health H E Abdullah bin Khalid Al Qahtani and is organised in collaboration with the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
Sessions will be on infectious disease, disaster preparedness, pre-hospital emergency, injury prevention, and medical toxicology, among others, relevant to those with an interest in emergency care.
“The conference underscores the importance of focusing on the crucial interface between two major components of the health system — emergency medicine and public health. In Qatar and many other parts of the world, emergency departments are the point of entry to the healthcare system for a large percentage of the population. Emergency medicine, as a speciality, plays an integral role in addressing public health concerns,” said Sheikh Dr Mohamed bin Hamad Al Thani, Director, Public Health, SCH.
The conference at the Qatar National Convention Centre also includes two days of pre-conference workshops and will feature speakers from a wide spectrum of emergency care and public health organisations from across the world.
“The forum has a multidisciplinary focus, addressing major public health concerns such as the management of chronic conditions, injury and health risks and the delivery of clinical and preventive services.
Attendees will have an opportunity to engage with leading emergency and public health researchers, clinicians and administrators, learning and sharing the latest thinking on these topics,” said Professor Stephen H Thomas, Chairman, Department of Emergency Medicine, HMC.
The conference is expected to be one of the year’s largest gatherings of emergency and public health professionals in the region. Qatar National Bank is the main sponsor. An exhibition will be held in parallel with the conference.
The forum will also feature over 150 scientific abstracts. The Peninsula
