DOHA: The third Qatar International Boat Show (QIBS), which opens today at Mourjan Marinas in Lusail City, will be the biggest yet in terms of size and scope, say organisers.
No fewer than 85 boats will be on display during the five-day show which is expected to attract 15,000 visitors.
“QIBS has been at the forefront of attracting interest in the growing maritime sector. This is leading to continuous and accelerated growth of the country’s manufacturing industry, which means that it is a worthy competitor to other major countries and manufacturers around the world,” Faysal Mikati, Founder and CEO of SnowComms, the organiser of the show told a press conference on board a 30-metre luxury dhow at the Marina.
Mikati said the expanding scope of the show is having a positive impact on tourism and marine developments and promoting Qatar as an international destination in line with Brand Qatar’s latest campaign.
A total of 120 exhibitors, many of whom are household names in the maritime industry, are taking part. There will be more side events, including awards, cruises, exhibitor parties, evening gatherings, nautical activities, sea races and seminars.
“Many of our visitors will be interested in the many breathtaking firsts at the show — from international product launches, VIP water shuttles, Fly boarding displays and a special kids area. These showcases are only rivalled by the huge impact within the maritime industry,” said Pantelis Stathis, Director of the show. “QIBS has been at the forefront of successfully facilitating deals between Qatari companies and international agencies in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 to position the country as a world- class tourism hub for business, leisure, culture, education and sport. In short, Qatar can be said to be rediscovering its ancient maritime traditions.”
Minister of Economy and Commerce H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani will officially inaugurate the expo at 4pm today to be attended by his entourage, VIPs, ambassadors and exhibitors.
The show runs until Saturday from 2.30pm to 9.30pm today until Thursday and 12.30pm to 9.30pm on Friday and Saturday.
