PARIS: Three people were killed on Tuesday when an avalanche hit a ski resort in the Bonneval-sur-Arc area of south-eastern France, close to the Italian border, according to the local authorities.

The avalanche struck around noon local time (1000GMT), according to the Savoie police prefecture.

No details were given on the identities of the victims. Local media are reporting they were two men and a woman, all experienced skiers.

The French national weather forecast agency, Meteo France, placed all the country’s Alps departments on yellow alert as mild temperatures made snows on the high slopes more fragile, increasing the risk of possible avalanches.
