Sheikh Khalifa becomes GCC Chambers chairman

Doha:  Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani received the chairmanship of  the Federation of the GCC Chambers of Commerce and Industry from the Federation’s outgoing Chairman Khalil bin Abdullah Al Khanji, who is also President of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, whose term of office expires tomorrow.
According to a statement issued by the Federation yesetrday, Al Khanji said the Federation, as a representative of the GCC  private sector has to make a tangible progress in the future in significant economic issues  through cooperation with the GCC General Secretariat.
He said during his visit to the headquarters of the Federation in Al Khobar his meeting with its Secretary-General Abdurrahim Hassan Naqi, Secretary-General and the Federation’s members that the GCC private sector tackled  many  economic issues, especially during the period of his chairmanship of the Federation, which will end tomorrow. But he said there are economic issues such as the GCC common market and how to activate it, the GCC and Arab food and water security project, the Customs Union and how to address all the obstacles facing it, as well as the GCC unified tourist visa awaited by GCC citizens and foreign investors during the next phase and other issues that need to be followed up, along with other issues that should be followed up with concerned bodies foremost of which being the GCC General Secretariat.
Al Khanji pointed out to the importance of promoting investment in GCC countries through activities that the Federation is keen to organise in GCC countries, especially that  the private sector is suffering from volatility in the laws that need to be strengthened and supported by officials in the GCC states.
