Al Rayyan Municipality has surpassed Doha Municipality in terms of the issuance of building permits last month. However, an overall decrease by 6 % was seen in the number of permits issued in December compared to November 2016.
Al Rayyan Municipality (including Sheehaniya) issued 198 building permits, accounting for 35% of the total permits issued in November, followed by Doha Municipality with 133 permits, i.e. 23%. Al Wakrah Municipality issued 88 permits (15%) and Al Da'ayen Municipality issued 63 permits, i.e. 11%. Other municipalities followed with Umm Salal issuing 59 permits (10%), Al Khor 24 permits (4%), and Al Shamal 9 permits (2%).
The figures were revealed by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics in its 24th edition of the monthly Statistics of Building Permits issued by all municipalities. In terms of type of permits, the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitute 62% (356 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of December 2016, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 35% (200 permits), and fencing permits with 4% (18 permits). Building permits data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.
Within the new residential buildings permits issued, villas’ permits top the list, accounting for 51% (163 permits) of all new residential buildings permits. This is followed by abodes under housing loans by 37% (118 permits) and apartments buildings by 9% (29 permits).
On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits at 50% (19 permits), followed by industrial buildings as workshops and factories at 21% (8 permits), followed by mosques at 13% (5 permits), then governmental buildings at 11% (4 permits).
A 6% decrease was seen in the number of permits issued in December 2016 with those issued in the previous month.
This decrease was noted in the municipalities of Al Khor (33%), Al Shamal (25%), Al Daayen (24%), Wakrah (13%), Rayyan (3%). On the other hand there was an increase in the municipalities of Umm Slal (31%), and Doha (2%).
