Vienna: Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani unveiled the monument of "Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani Anti-Corruption Excellence Award", in the presence of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, at the garden of the Vienna International Centre.
The monument, in the shape of a hand of steel, symbolises the solidarity of all nations of the world as one hand for cooperation to combat corruption.
The event was attended by Yury Fedotov, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna and Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and a number of senior officials.
It was also attended by Their Excellencies members of the delegation accompanying the Emir.
The Emir also met separately with the UN Secretary-General at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna.
Ban Ki-moon thanked the Emir for coming to the United Nations premises in Vienna, and for the role which the State of Qatar played and its continued support for the UN efforts in the fight against corruption and crime and for the establishment of the rule of law.
They discussed developments on the regional and international arenas, and a number of regional and international issues of common concern, particularly the situation in Palestine, Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Libya .
The two sides called for exerting all efforts in order to reach a just and durable solution to the Palestinian issue, and to stop settlement activity, lift the siege imposed on Gaza and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab peace initiative.
The UN Secretary-General also expressed thanks and gratitude to the Emir for his personal stances and Qatar's endeavours in support of peace efforts in the region.
The meeting was attended by Yury Fedotov, a number of UN senior officials as well as Their Excellencies members of the delegation accompanying the Emir.
