Doha: A group of young professionals managing Qatar University (QU) social media work is broadcasting a significant amount of awareness messages to the university’s internal and external audience. These days they have an addition — content on the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Noora Al Naimi, Section Head of Social Media at Communications and Public Relations Department (QU), said that in addition to producing a variety of content with a set of goals, such as instructive short films and design publications (infographics) through the official platforms, the section is charged with managing Qatar University’s official social media platforms.

Al Naimi said that the section manages seven official social media sites for the institution, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Tik-Tok, Snapchat, Instagram, and LinkedIn, with the help of social media professionals and four other staff members.

She said, “We focus on student research and academic achievements in our publications on these various platforms, as well as success stories and entertaining content is shared which appeals the audience. We also work to forward suggestions from students to the appropriate parties, and we take serious action on any complaints, whether they are academic or not we make sure to forward them all to the administration.”

According to Al Naimi, Twitter is the most engaging social media network for students because it enjoys the most local popularity. “We also have a large audience of followers across all age groups,” she added.

Najla Al Kuwari, Senior Social Media Specialist at Communications and Public Relations Department QU, said that team aims to provide high-quality content. She pointed out that social media has developed remarkably during the past three years, and currently the focus is on the most influential global event, the FIFA World Cup 2022, which will be held in Qatar in November. QU will host Argentina and Spain in its hostels.

Al Kuwari stated that the department ensures live broadcast of events through the YouTube platform.

Yasin Hassan, Social Media Specialist, Communications and Public Relations Department QU, said by extending broadcast platforms, work has been done to build and enhance the social media platforms. To engage the younger audience, he stated that the department recently launched its Tik-Tok platform — views on Tik-Tok have reached approximately 60,000.

Tala Agha, Graphic Designer, said: “We create content and follow all social media developments, and at the moment our main focus is to intensify FIFA World Cup 2022 related content on social media. Through these platforms, we aim to reach both the local community and international community, including visitors during World Cup.”

Al Mutassim Ali, Film Producer, said the department produces short films highlighting the most recent accomplishments of students and faculty, and keeps track of conferences and events held on the university campus.
