GCC team visits Education Ministry to discuss information security

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) hosted a  high-level delegation of specialists in the field of cybersecurity and information technology in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) on July 5 and 6, to learn about the Qatari experience in the field of information security.

 The delegation’s visit comes within the framework of the exchange of field visits at the practical and theoretical levels organised by ABEGS for specialists in the field of information security, intending to enhance the exchange of expertise and pioneering scientific and practical experiences and identify the best practices in the area of information security, including access to the latest technology programmes used by the Ministry in this regard.

 In his welcome speech to the visiting Gulf delegation, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Ibrahim Saleh Al Nuaimi stressed the importance of exchanging experiences in the field of cybersecurity, and working to employ best practices to protect systems and networks from malicious attacks, in a way that ensures their stability, enhances the smooth flow and privacy of data, and contributes to achieving the aspirations and ambitions of education communities in the GCC countries.

 He also called for concerted efforts to achieve the highest standards of cybersecurity and data security, noting the importance of artificial intelligence security and all other cybersecurity areas.

 Director of the Information Systems Department at the Ministry Eng Mona Salem Al Fadhli opened the agenda and sessions on the first day of the visit. In this context, Strategic Planning Researcher at the Technical Office of the Minister’s Office Wadha Al Thani, presented the strategy of the MoEHE for the period 2023-2030, its axes, and the enablers of the educational system and its pillars.

 During the session dedicated to the Department of Information Systems, Eng Mona Salem Al Fadhli addressed the methodology of cybersecurity, its relationship to the Ministry’s strategy and the National Cybersecurity Strategy, and the best practices implemented during the State of Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 World Cup Qatar. Sheikha Mohammed Al Hail, Information Technology Guidance Consultant at the Educational Guidance Department, presented computing and information technology curricula, touching on curriculum standards and learning resources related to information security and cybersecurity.

The presentation clarified all the Ministry’s efforts to support this aspect of the curriculum and partnership with the National Cybersecurity Agency in preparing cybersecurity curricula that enhance the teaching of information security concepts, safe digital awareness for students in schools, laboratory equipment, and extracurricular activities in support of the Information security field.

Lulwa Hassan Al Nuaimi, e-learning projects specialist at the Department of E-Learning and Digital Solutions, presented the experience of the State of Qatar in the field of e-learning, reviewing the journey of e-learning, then the Ministry’s efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the Qatar education system, which she reviewed its characteristics. She lectured about the e-learning strategy that was recently launched and concluded with digital awareness of the parties to the educational process through the “Safespace” website and the “Cyber Echo” initiative.

 During the meeting, a meaningful educational dialogue occurred between the visiting Gulf delegation and officials of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, in which the delegation members raised many inquiries and questions, and ministry officials responded to them.
