Doha: Five high school groups supported by Qatar University Young Scientists Center (QU-YSC) to participate in the Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) bagged four gold medals and a silver medal at the event held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This achievement was recorded in a strong competition that included 482 participating projects submitted by 32 countries.
The winners, announced recently included gold medalists from Al-Arqam Secondary Academy for Girls won gold medals — Hajar Al Jumaili and Maha Al Maraghi for a research entitled “The effect of inhibiting Aryl Hydrocarbon receptors on the immune system CTLA-4 in colon cancer stem cells,” and Wadja Al Qatami for a paper entitled “Generation of blue energy using a water salinity gradient in a seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant.”
The duo of Noura Al Abdullah and Jawaher Al Ansari won for a paper entitled “The effect of electrodeposition composite nano-coatings of Ni-P-BN to prevent corrosion of steel.”
Al-Ramil Kindergarten and Al Maraghi Kindergarten won for a paper entitled “Towards the Development of the Next Generation of Printable Carbon-Based Photovoltaic Technology (mPSCs).”
Students Ali Shams and Muhammad Radwani from Al Jazeera Academy for Boys also won a silver medal for a research titled “Developing the Next Generation of Printable Photovoltaic Technology” for carbon-based printing (mPSCs)”.
Prof. Noora Al Thani, Director of QUYSC expressed pride in the students’ achievement which indicates their awareness of the importance of harnessing science, investigation and research to find solutions to contemporary problems and challenges. She also stressed the center’s keenness to provide a supportive environment for students and encourage them to participate in international competition for their benefit.
