DOHA: Most of drugs seized in Qatar came through the sea where smugglers use high-speed cruisers and weapons, according to a Public Security official..

This was disclosed by Staff Major-General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi, Director-General, Public Security, and President, Permanent Committee for Drugs and Alcohol Affairs.
In a lecture at Ahmed Bin Mohammed Military College, he said most of the countries in the world are facing drug and alcohol problems, which make them enact laws and sign agreements between themselves to prevent drug smuggling and take action against those involved.
Some 10 years ago, Qatar established the committee, which has organised several awareness programmes using media.
Drugs between America and Asia pass through the Arabian Gulf and more than 80 percent of the narcotics come through Afghanistan, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, which are also trying to combat the menace.
Staff Major-General Al Khulaifi said authorities had seized millions of Captagon pills  which were crossing Qatar to other countries.
“So we cooperate with many countries to prevent the smuggling of the narcotics,” he added. The Peninsula
