Govt procurement conference from May 19 at QNCC

DOHA: The inaugural Government Procurement and Contracting Conference and Exhibition in Qatar will be held at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) from May 19 to 21. 

Announcing details of the event yesterday, Nora Al Mannai, CEO of Enterprise Qatar, said objectives of the conference include “gathering information based on the expertise of the best international practices, and presenting it to SMEs in Qatar over three days of interactive seminars and workshops.” 

Al Mannai said the event is an annual meeting point for policymakers, local and international experts and SME business leaders to engage in open discussions and identify solutions regarding the most crucial issues in government procurement and contracting; and sign business deals with decision makers.

The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, H E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani, will open the conference held under the patronage of the Heir Apparent, H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Al Mannai said the event would have daily seminars which would tackle all projects within government procurement and contracting that Enterprise Qatar prepared and launched in January this year in addition to other related topics. 

Experts from Ireland, Qatar, Switzerland, Turkey and the UAE will speak on “SMEs Business Opportunities Mapping” and “Think Small First – Small is Beautiful” on the first day of the conference. 

Topics for the second day include “SMEs Rating & Accreditation” and “Contract Finance and Quick Payments,” in addition to debating contracting legal implications and effectively guiding SMEs towards winning and delivering public tenders. Experts from Belgium, India, Malaysia, and the USA and a number of Qatari CEOs will take part in the discussions.
