Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) organised a panel discussion titled ‘Challenges Facing Qatari Accounting Firms in International Expansion’ recently. The event took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in Lusail City, with the participation of representatives from Qatari accounting firms, the Qatar Association of Certified Public Accountants, and industry officials and experts.
The session is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to support the accounting sector, enhance its capabilities, and enable Qatari firms to expand internationally. It aimed to address a host of challenges facing accounting firms in entering foreign markets and discussed potential solutions and mechanisms to enhance their competitiveness regionally and globally.
During the discussion, Salem bin Salem Al Mannai, Director of the Corporate Affairs Department at the Ministry, emphasised the importance of international expansion for Qatari accounting firms as a pathway to foster business growth in terms of scope and scale. He noted that entering new markets allows these firms to gain diverse professional experience and interact with different business environments, strengthening their global competitiveness.
Al Mannai stressed the Ministry’s commitment, in working with Qatar Association of Certified Public Accountants, to extend all necessary support to these firms – including guidance on international market requirements and support in forging strategic partnerships that help enhance their presence abroad.
The session covered key topics including legal and regulatory challenges, where participants reviewed the laws and procedures required for Qatari firms to be registered in foreign markets in line with international standards. The discussion underscored the importance of collaborating with foreign companies and global firms to increase success potential and mitigate the challenges inherent in international expansion.
At the conclusion of the session, participants highlighted the importance of maintaining ongoing dialogue and coordination between relevant stakeholders to create a conducive environment for international expansion. They also emphasised the need to leverage successful experiences and promote knowledge exchange between Qatari accounting firms and global counterparts.
