DOHA: Shrek the Musical will be staged for the first time at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) from March 9 to 19.
Based on the multi-selling DreamWorks blockbuster, Shrek the Musical is set to entertain families, with its lavish costumes and great music.
As part of its vision to help make Qatar a tourism and entertainment hub in the region, Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) has partnered with the production.
“We are excited to bring this theatre spectacle which features a much loved character all over the world to Qatar.
“Featuring all new songs as well as Shrek’s famous anthem, Shrek the Musical brings the much–loved DreamWorks characters to life, live on stage, in an all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza.
“It is this year’s must-see show for all the family. It is colourful, positive and, most of all, highly entertaining,” said Hussein Fakhri, CEO, TripleTwo.
The animated movie was released in 2001, and the three sequels have grossed so far more than $2bn worldwide.
The live stage musical version premiered in 2008 and since then, the show has played with immense success for more than a year on Broadway in New York and in the London Westend.
An extensive tour travelled through the US, the UK, Europe, Asia and South America.
Current versions of Shrek are playing in Germany, the UK and Japan. Since 2008, the show has been seen by more than two million people.
Tickets for the show at QNCC Theatre are on sale online at www.ticketmaster.qa and at Ticketmaster outlets in Carefour branches in City Centre, Villaggio and Landmark. Early bird discounted tickets are available until Saturday. The Peninsula
