Qatar Foundation (QF) is set to celebrate this year’s National Day by hosting a tent at Darb Al-Saai, packed with fun and exciting activities from today until December 20.
The theme of the Darb Al-Saai tent will be ‘Siraj’; QF’s new 3D animation edutainment TV series, which aims to instill a love of the Arabic language from an early age. Visitors to the tent will be accompanied by Rashid and Noura, the main characters of the programme, as they move through different sections of the tent.
“A key component of Qatar National Day is the preservation of our local heritage and culture, and it is for this reason that the theme of this year’s tent is ‘Siraj’. We want to encourage children to embrace our language, as well foster a spirit of innovation and reinforce positive values, to help protect our culture. As at QF we believe this is crucial to the development of our society,” said Fahad Saad Al Qahtani, President of Community Development, Qatar Foundation.
Some of the exciting activities on offer this year include the QF Tram experience, which will take visitors on a journey detailing Education City’s facilities, while highlighting QF’s ongoing sustainability efforts.
Additionally, QF’s popular National Reading Campaign will host a series of interactive games and learning opportunities for children, such as a book swap, story maze, and scrabble, as well as the innovative Reading Truck.
QF’s National Day schedule will have activities catering to all ages. Qatar National Library will have story-telling activity, while Musheireb Properties will host workshops on a number of subjects, Qatar Green Building Council will have an educational video game, Qatar Botanic Garden’s Green Doll activity will demonstrate community on recycling, Qatar Pearls legacy will demonstrate entire pearling process and Qatar Diabetes Association will organise various educational and fun actives.
The Yalla Natural Trailer truck, an initiative of the 'Your Health First' campaign run by Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar (WCM – Q), will allow visitors to plant seeds in mini plant pots as well as create amazing abstract paintings. Children can create their own healthy fruit smoothies using pedal power from bicyles.
The universities and institutions under QF will organise various activities based on their specialisations. Also, an exhibition from the Stars Of Science (SoS) TV show will showcase prototypes created by SoS alumni. The QF’s Darb Al-Saai tent will open at 4pm today. Qatar National Day celebrations will take place in the morning from 8am to 12noon and in the evening from 4pm to 10pm, with the evening of December 17 exclusively for ladies.
