Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti presents a memento to Kuwaiti kayakers Bashar Al Huneidi and Mansoor Al Safran.
Kuwaiti kayakers Bashar Al Huneidi and Mansoor Al Safran, who have embarked on an expedition around GCC in a bid to raise environmental awareness, docked at Katara beach yesterday.
Welcoming the duo, General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation- Katara, Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti stressed on the importance of preserving the maritime tradition and Katara’s efforts in this regard as it continues to host numerous festivals like the traditional Dhow Festival and Senyar Championships which remind the new generation of their rich maritime tradition.
“Our seas need us now more than ever. We have a responsibility to help our governments to protect and manage our natural world and resources,” said Al Huneidi, Founder of Kayak4Kuwait — a local four-man team formed with the aim of creating awareness on the importance of preserving the Arabian Gulf.
Kayak4Kuwait is supported by the Kuwait Environment Public Authority and other local organisations.
Al Huneidi, and Al Safran are on a journey from Kuwait to Oman to raise environmental awareness around marine conservation and protection in the region.
Dr Al Sulaiti presented a gold-plated memento shaped as a nose-clip depicting a maritime object to the kayakers.
The duo set off on their journey from Kuwait on November 10. From Qatar they will continue their voyage to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates before arriving in Oman.
