Passengers enter a U-Bahn underground train during a nationwide strike by Germany’s train drivers’ union GDL, at Alexanderplatz underground station in Berlin yesterday. Deutsche Bahn appealed to a higher court yesterday to try to stop a strike by the union, which represents just 20,000 of the railways’ 196,000 workers.
