DOHA: While many people have spent Eid Al-Fitr holidays watching shows in malls, theatres and other cool venues, some have preferred to engage in outdoor activities, The Peninsula has learnt.
The rich line-up of events and activities Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) has organised in partnership with private companies and government entities for this year’s Eid in Qatar Celebrations are being held in 16 venues, mostly indoor, but some people choose to step out of the comforts of air conditioned venues to visit other places designated for the celebrations.
Hundreds of families flocked to Aspire Park Zone yesterday to relax and engage in activities at a minimal fee.
“We were here yesterday but there were lots of people, there was hardly any space to stay,” said Indian Sudeesh who came with his family to enjoy the evening weather.
They were among some of those who started to fill the 880,000sqm park at around 5pm when temperatures began to drop.
At Aspire Park Lake, families were seen lining up to avail of paddle boats, which can accommodate up to four people and are available for QR20 for 15 minutes.
Passengers aged up to five are not allowed and all passengers are provided with life vest for safety.
Cycling, pony ride and remote controlled car race are other activities available for Aspire park-goers during the Eid holidays.
Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve in Al Shahaniya also started free sightseeing tours yesterday afternoon. The zoo is this Eid from 4pm to 7pm until Sunday.
Other activities include aerial paragliding at Sealine beach and horse riding at Al Samriya Equestrian Academy.
With the theme ‘Capture Joy’, this year’s Eid Al-Fitr festival has been tailored for the entire family keeping in mind promoting Qatar as a family destination of choice in the region.
Participating malls are staging classic fairytales and shows which capture children’s hearts and attract families from all walks of life.
“As more families come out to ‘capture joy’ on the second day of Eid, we’re delighted to see such great attendance from visitors and residents at entertainment options across Qatar.
“There’s something for everyone at Eid in Qatar Celebrations and with two more days of festivities, there’s plenty of time for all the family to enjoy the holidays,” said Hamad Al Khaja, Head of Events and Festivals Technical Support, Qatar Tourism Authority, yesterday.
