Athens: More than 100 migrants rescued at sea arrived in the Greek port city of Patras aboard a freighter on Wednesday morning, the coastguard said.
The crew of the Gagliarda, operating under the Maltese flag, had spotted the people in a drifting boat and rescued them the previous day, in the Ionian Sea between Greece and Italy, German News Agency (DPA) reported.
According to the coastguard, 109 of the migrants are from Pakistan, three from Syria and one from India.
Coastguard officials suspected that they had intended to travel from the western coast of Greece or the Greek island of Crete towards Italy.
The Greek coastguard has found and rescued hundreds of migrants in the region this year.
