Update: In a new photo available on the social media it looks like the tiger is brought under control.

Update: Ministry of interiror has also tweeted about the tiger issue.

Doha: A tiger was spotted on Doha highway and people were sharing its pictures and videos on various social media platforms.

The animal, which looked like an escaped pet and was spotted on the 22 February street near Al Rayan.

People were saying many search teams were on the look out of the tiger in Al Rayan area.

In the short video available on twitter it was seen running among the cars.

Later a twitter user tweeted that four people were seen trying to put it back in the van.

The tiger was seen with a long chain running among the traffic.

Footage also emerged showing the tiger initially falling onto the road from a moving truck.

One picture released on social media claimed to show that the big cat had been captured safe and sound.

It was not clear who owns the tiger, but keeping wild animals, including tigers, as pets is not uncommon in Gulf countries.

Last year, the government had to make an appeal for the owners of an escaped cheetah cub to come forward after it was found north of Doha.

After one sighting of a tiger several years ago, a spoof Doha Tiger twitter site was created.

One social media user, Sultan Al-Qassemi, complained on Twitter after seeing the footage that: "This obsession of keeping wild animals by rich kids in the Gulf has gone too far."
