DOHA: The Minister of Tourism of Ecuador will head a delegation that will visit Qatar in April, aiming to strengthen the relations between the two countries after the recent visit of the Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani to Ecuador last month. The President of the South American country, Rafael Correa, will also visit Qatar this year.
The Ambassador to Doha, Kabalan B Abisaab, informed about the outcome of Emir’s visit in a press conference, an Arabic daily newspaper reported yesterday.
Abisaab praised ‘Qatar’s significant role in regional and international issues’ and talked about the economic policy of Qatar.
The Embassy in Doha is responsible for issues that affect all GCC countries as well as Lebanon and Syria. Ecuador aims to follow up agreements reached in many areas during the Emir’s visit on February 16. The historic visit was the first of a head of State of Qatar.
Both countries signed nine agreements on cooperation in legal fields, aviation, tourism, international relations, trade and investment and other strategic sectors.
In the area of trade and investment, an air services agreement was signed with the aim of deepening aviation relations between both countries and opening an air route from Qatar to Ecuador and vice versa.
In addition, in order to facilitate trade and economic activities between the two countries through the formation of a Joint Committee, both governments subscribed a Commercial and Technical Economic Cooperation Agreement Ecuador-Qatar.
Through a Memorandum of Understanding on tourism, both countries will work together to strengthen the tourism exchange, considering that this activity is an important source of income.
The Ministry of Strategic Sectors and Qatar Petroleum through a Memorandum of Understanding will develop initiatives in the legal, technical, financial and commercial areas in order to develop a feasibility study of the proposed investment in the Pacific Refinery.
The Memorandum of Understanding between PRO ECUADOR (Institute for Promotion of Exports and Investments) and Qatar Chamber was also signed. This will allow promoting trade, investment attraction, and exchange of relevant information among others.
