Doha: A picture of a taxi cruising down the Corniche has gone viral on social media. What makes the picture viral is the fact that the taxi was on the pedestrian path at the Corniche.
This picture kicked off a debate about driving skills of Karwa taxi drivers and people were joking that the taxi has gone for a walk at Cornice as it is preparing for fast approaching Sport Day.
Mowasalat took notice of the strange behaviour of the driver and later tweeted that the driver was terminated from the service.
“These taxi drivers are specially trained. We were astonished to find out that to escape traffic one of our taxi drivers drove through the pedestrian side at Corniche. The issue was handed-over to the authorities. The
competent authority took a decision to terminate him immediately,” an official from Mowasalat told The Peninsula.
“We informed the public about the incident and our decision on our Facebook and Twitter accounts,” he added.

“Regarding the violation committed on 06/02/2017 and based upon the investigation made by Mowasalat with the driver and the franchise taxi operator, Mowasalat has taken necessary actions, and the driver is terminated on 07/02/2017.”
“We are thankful that the car did not cause any accident as many people are walking or cycling on Corniche as the weather is pleasant. Safety comes first in our service,” the official further added.
