Three groups of participants in Qatar Leadership Centre’s (QLC) 2014-2015 programmes were introduced and honoured during the QLC Orientation this week, including those entering a special, new Government Leaders programme. QLC, which provides customised professional training in order to develop Qatari leadership potential, officially unveiled plans for its Current and Future Leaders, Current and Future Executive Leaders and Government Leaders programmes during the two-day event held on the 5th and 6th of January.
Dr Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani, Board Member and Executive Director, underscored the importance of QLC’s programmes in developing Qatar’s leaders to fulfil the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030. “The new participants exemplify tremendous leadership capacity and willingness to leverage their skills for the greater good of Qatar,” noted Dr Al Thani.
“Qatar Leadership Centre intends to foster and build upon the resources of these talented professionals to meet the challenges of the future.”
After an intensive selection process, chosen candidates joined their peers in one of three programmes, each of which requires a unique skill set and level of professional experience.
The 100 Qatari participants, many at senior management levels from diverse government institutions and businesses, learned about the curriculum and expectations of their respective programmes.
The Current and Future Leaders programme, designed for participants ages 25 to 35, focuses on strategy, negotiation, team-building and achieving innovation. Participants will explore different aspects of leadership during this 18-month program, the second facilitated by QLC since 2011.
Sultan bin Rashid Al Khater, Undersecretary, Ministry of Business and Trade, and member of the QLC Board of Directors, addressed the group and encouraged participants to share knowledge gained from QLC with their respective organisations in order to support individual and institutional growth, development and innovation.
The Current and Future Executive Leaders programme, which was launched in 2012, aims to strengthen leadership and management skills through a 12-month curriculum for participants ages 36 to 46. This year, QLC expanded its offerings to include a 15-month Government Leaders programme for professionals ages 25 to 40.
Participants will develop leadership, decision-making and policy management skills during the program.
All three programmes combine theoretical and practical instruction from prominent regional and international experts and leaders in industries such as oil and gas, government, healthcare and communications technology.
At the orientation, participants were introduced to QLC’s mandate, stemming from a 2008 Amiri decree, to promote the long term sustainable development of Qatar by developing Qatari leaders.
Participants are due to begin their curriculum this month.
