ExxonMobil Qatar has announced the student winner of a unique contest held in conjunction with Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2013. Tasbih Amin from Northwestern University in Qatar was selected by ExxonMobil and Qatar Happening magazine for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. As the winner, Tasbih received a full media pass and backstage access to cover the tournament alongside professional photographers and journalists.
“We see ExxonMobil’s title sponsorship of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open as an opportunity to not only promote Qatar on the international stage and elevate the importance of sport in Qatar, but also as a way to showcase the critical role arts can play in these events,” said Abdullatif Al Naemi, National Development Manager for ExxonMobil Qatar.
“It is our hope that this experience helps support and motivate young talent and gives them a unique opportunity to practise their field of study alongside professionals in an exciting environment during the tournament.”
Students from Northwestern University in Qatar were requested to submit a 500-word essay describing their campus life. Qatar Happening and ExxonMobil then selected their favourite article, whose writer was winner of the contest, entitling the student to participate in player press conferences and interview players throughout the course of last week’s tournament.
In addition, Tasbih’s work is being featured in the January edition of Qatar Happening and she will have the opportunity to intern with the magazine. “I am extremely ecstatic to express myself and be recognised for it,” she said.
“We are very happy and proud to be partnering with ExxonMobil and to be part of this important initiative,” said Jorge Granda, Sales and Communications Manager of Qatar Happening.
Other benefits for the grand prize winner included access to the ExxonMobil stand, where tennis players visited daily, as well as an invitation to the VIP Tennis Players’ Gala Dinner.
