Samanvayam, an organisation of Indian expatriates, has announced the winners for the ‘Samanvayam Sahithi Puraskaram 2013’.

‘The Samanvayma Sahithi Puraskaram 2013’ in the general category went to Bindu R Thampi. Bindu, who has published numerous poems in English and Malayalam, works as a teacher at the MES Indian School.

The winner was selected from entries received from all over the GCC region by a jury headed by eminent poet and academician Prof Madusdhanan Nair. Poet and lyricist Murugan Kattakada, and upcoming poet and journalist C S Jayachandran were the other members of the jury.

The Sahithi  Puraskaram was instituted by Samanvayam last year to promote Malayalam literature among Keralites in the Gulf region.

For schools, there were prizes in two categories this year. The ‘Samanvayam Sahithi Puraskaram 2013’ in the senior school category went to Hamad Younus, a class 10 student of DMIS School.

The prize in the junior school category went to Wafa Anwar, a class 8 student of Ideal Indian School.

The awards will be presented at a function on Friday at the Indian Cultural Centre by Prof Madusdhanan Nair.
