Customs thwarts attempt to smuggle tobacco into Qatar

Doha: The Maritime Customs Department at Hamad Port were able to thwart the smuggling of the banned tobacco - tambak and supari (betel nut) into Qatar 

The department suspected a shipment of bags containing wood, and found banned substances weighing approximately 2962.5 kilograms. 

The officials found that there was supari (betel nut) weighing approximately 118.800 kilograms along with a branded one of the same substance, “Vimal Gutkha”, weighing approximately 220 kilograms.

Customs officers are provided with all means of support including the latest devices and continuous training to read the body language of passengers and to be aware of the latest methods followed by smugglers.
