Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has opened an orphanage with a big education centre in Yamuna Nagar district in the Indian state of Haryana.
The facility will provide free school education to more than 1,200 poor students including 275 orphans from three states -- Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
The centre will also provide accommodation to 100 orphan children.  They will be also given food, clothes and other necessities.
The project 'Abdullah and Abdul Jalil Abdul Ghani Al Abdul Ghani Center for Caring and Rehabilitating Orphans in India' was developed in an area of 3,316 sqm. It was financed by a Qatari citizen, Abdurrahman Abdullah Abdul Ghani.
The orphanage building is two-storied, comprising a mosque , five living rooms, five classrooms, an office and a computer room. The facility also has a clinic, a kitchen and a restaurant, among other facilities.
The centre has a playground, two residential buildings. An ambulance and two buses were also added. The building was furnished and the operation costs for two years have been provided.
The centre was opened officially on Friday. The opening ceremony was attended by a delegation from Qatar: Dr Ayed bin Dabssan Al Qahtani, Chairman, Board of Trustees, and General Director, RAF, Dr Mohamad Salah Ibrahim, Deputy General Manager, RAF, and Ahmad Yusuf Fakhor, Head of Financial Resources and Media Department at RAF.
Salman bin Abdullah Abdul Ghani, Advisor for Strategic Program of RAF, Mohamad bin Abdul Jalil Abdul Ghani, Ambassador of Mercy ,and Abdullah Rashid Hasan Al Anzi, Ambassador of Mercy also participated in the ceremony.
The centre will not only protect orphan children from scorching heat in summer and extreme cold in winter but will also provide them education, said Zarif Al Nadwi, Chairman of Al Rashid Charity Organization, RAF’s partner and operator of the Centre.
"I am very happy to see this project. It will serve orphan children. I saw smiles on their faces today," said Salman Abdul Ghani.
"I thank RAF for building this centre on behalf of my family: Abdullah Abdul Ghani and Abdul Jalil Abdul Ghani."
RAF provides especial care to orphans and gives priorities to projects for weaker sections of the community, said Dr Ayed bin Dabssan Al Qahtani, Chairman, Board of Trustees, and General Director, RAF. Abdullah and Abdul Jalil Abdul Ghani Al Abdul Ghani Center for Caring and Rehabilitating Orphans in India is a best example of such projects, he added.
"This is phase-I project and we will conduct a study to implement phase II project to meet the required extension in the project. We will extend the project to benefit maximum number of orphan children," said Mohamad bin Abdul Jalil Abdul Ghani Al Abdul Ghani, an ambassador of mercy from RAF.
India needs such projects as it is home to about 300 million Muslims, said Mohamad bin Husain Abdul Ghani Al Abdul Ghani, an ambassador of Mercy. "I wish philanthropists in Qatar will finance such projects," he added.
"I participate in inauguration of charity projects launched by RAF across the world and provide the information with pictures and video footage to upload on social media to attract the donors," said Abdullah Rashid Al Anzi, an ambassador of Mercy and hashtag handlers for charity works and other causes on social networking site.
