To raise awareness about diabetes in the region, the Annual Beat Diabetes Walk will also offer free blood glucose testing to all participants.
Registrations for the annual Beat Diabetes Walk in Qatar can be completed online at www.beatdiabetes.me till November 10. All registered participants will receive a walkathon kit comprising a Beat Diabetes T-shirt and cap which can be collected at the MIA Park from 2pm.
Announcing the walk, Santosh Pai, COO, Landmark Group Qatar said, “More than half the people living with the diabetes are not aware that they have it. According to the International Diabetes Federation, we currently have over 35.4 million living with diabetes in the MENA region; by 2040 that number is expected to cross 72 million. It is essential that as a community we come together and raise awareness about the condition and we invite the community at large to come and share their support. Beat Diabetes in Qatar is undertaken in partnership with the Qatar Diabetes Association— Qatar Foundation and supported by Hamad Medical Corporation, and MIA Park.
Dr Abdulla Al Hamaq, Executive Director of QDA, said: “Diabetes is a lifestyle condition that can be managed if detected early. We look to emphasise the importance of regular check-ups and a healthy lifestyle.
“As this condition can impact any member of the family at any age, it is important to be alert and take the right step to safeguard health. Landmark Group is an integral part of the community and we engage with millions of people every day. We are proud to play a pivotal role in enabling the community to beat diabetes through a planned, comprehensive campaign.”
The Beat Diabetes Walk is held across the GCC and in 2015, the walk saw the unprecedented participation of more than 40,000 participants across these countries. In Qatar alone, over 8,000 people joined the walk and took the pledge to Beat Diabetes.
