In recognition of its excellent contribution to sustainability and green buildings, the Public Works Authority, Ashghal, has been granted two Sustainability Awards (2016) in health and education facilities by the Gulf Organization for Research and Development, GORD, the first performance-based system in the MENA region, developed for rating the green buildings and infrastructure.
Eng Nasser bin Ali Al Mawlawi received the merits during the opening session of the Green Expo Forum 2016, organised by GORD, in cooperation with the Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.
Engineer Lahdan Sager Al Mohanadi, Director of Building Affairs, and a galaxy of officials from Ashghal’s building sections were present in the Green Expo Forum 2016.
Sustainability Award is given by GORD for corporates that demonstrate commitment and leadership in implementing sustainability best practices in the built environment for current and future generations. Ashghal won the prizes thanks to its adoption of 3-star GSAS in all health and educational facilities, including the design and construction of hospitals, clinics, primary healthcare centres and schools and kindergartens.
GORD had bestowed on Ashghal a 3-star GSAS accreditation last March, following a long process of examining building projects and site visits to get verified that the facilities go with GSAS standards.
The Green Expo Forum 2016 sheds light on regional climate change challenges and long-term solutions to cut carbon transmissions for creating a sustainable environment in harmony with Paris
Climate Change Agreement (COP 21).
The conference focuses on exchanging expertise in sustainable designs, be it for buildings, urban planning or infrastructure, besides knowledge, cooperation and reciprocity.
