World renowned Italian pop opera singer Alessandro Safina is set to captivate hundreds of music lovers here with his distinctive, soulful and beautiful voice as he performs live at the Qatar National Convention Centre Theatre tomorrow night.

Safina’s seductive voice and distinctive music style has captured the hearts of millions around the world.

“My music varies a lot; I sing opera, but also classic Neapolitan and Italian songs and international pop classics. And of course my own songs: most of the time a mix of classic and pop. With my music style I hope to bring opera and classical music more accessible to people who are not yet acquainted with that form of art,” he said.

He started his unique blend of opera and pop music when a music producer asked him to sing pop using his tenor voice back when he was working as an opera singer in theatres.

“My intuition told me immediately that this was a great opportunity to add a kind of new style to the music scene, a bridge between classic music and pop. I worked on it and committed myself to obtain the best results and success out of it.”

Safina’s breakthrough to a pop audience took place in The Netherlands in November 2000, when he performed at the prestigious The Night Of The Proms celebration. His single Luna stayed at the top of the charts for 14 weeks.

In November 2001, Safina was one of several prestigious guests performing for Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of the 73rd Royal Variety Performance. He gave a masterly interpretation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Music of the Night.

Safina’s immense talent has been well-appreciated in the region, especially Dubai, Lebanon and Qatar.

“I really like working in this beautiful region; I’m always happy when I get a proposal for performances and I always try to make the max out of a show. Anyway, I hope to become more and more appreciated and well-known here and of course… return often for concerts as a result.”

A series of TV shows in Ukraine and a concert tour in Russia are making  Safina busy this year with many shows in Italy and other  countries already lined up for next year and in addition a new album is set for release soon.

“I have a new album ready, which will be launched this year. I hope and expect it will be released in this region as well. It contains beautiful new songs and some covers. It’s produced by Romana Musumarra, who also produced my first album that made me well-known through my hit Luna,” he added.

He finds collaborations with great artists such as Elton John, Sarah Brightman and Rod Stewart among his great experiences.

“I hope to record a duet with Haifa, an artist that I like a lot, in the very near future.”
