DOHA: Qatar University (QU) has secured the 393rd position in the ‘QS World University Rankings’ report released by Quacquarelli Symonds, a global higher education analysts.
The rankings are based on four categories — research; teaching; employability; and internationalisation.  The methodology consists of six indicators — academic reputation; employer reputation; faculty student ratio; citations per faculty; international students; and international faculty. The new achievement was announced yesterday in the presence of Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani,  Vice-Chairman, Board of Regents, QU.
Dr Hassan Al Derham, President, QU, said, “We are so happy to achieve this important success which reflects QU’s noticeable improvement that resulted from years of hard work and commitment. Ranking is not a figure. Rather, it is an indication of QU’s improvement and advancement in academic excellence, research endeavours, international reputation and local and international solid partnerships.
“The ranking also highlights reputation QU has built in the local labour market and society” he said.
QU was ranked recently among the top 10 globally for international faculty and 21 globally for international students which are great achievements for the university this year.
In the Arab region university rankings, QU was ranked ninth in QS Arab Region University Rankings 2016, achieving an average of 82.3 percent, according to the report released in June.
“It is a pleasure to be in Qatar to announce that QU has soared into the global top 400 universities in the QS World University Rankings 2016-2017. This means that QU can compete with many international universities,” said Ashwin Fernandes, Regional Director. QS.
“In the 13th edition of the QS World University Rankings, we have ranked 916 universities, after considering over 3,800.
“QU is among the top 400 which reflects the work and efforts put by its administration. From last year until now, QU jumped 88 places which makes it one of the fastest rising universities in the region.
“QU gains a wealth of academic, research and institutional accomplishments that have served to be positioned as an effective partner in Qatari society and one of the leading universities in the region. The real work for the university has just started and it’s to maintain its position among the top 400 universities in the world,” Fernandes added.
