DOHA: Population in Qatar increased by 5.7 percent in June this year, reaching over 2.47 million, compared to over 2.34 million recorded during the same period last year, shows data released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics. Population in June, however, fell by 4.3 percent compared to the previous month, when it reached over 2.58 million.
The number of traffic violations in June this year dropped by 22.2 percent compared to the previous month, and by 12.6 percent compared to the same period last year.
The total violations last June was 110,606 against 142,215 violations in May. Violations caught on radar were the highest at 65,959, followed by violations of “traffic instructions.”
The number of new vehicles registered in June decreased to 4219, from 4424 vehicles in May.
Traffic accidents also fell during the period, with 449 incidents in June against 543 incidents in May. Accidents in June included 370 minor cases, 60 major and 19 people died in the accidents during the period.
Some 75 accidents were reported at Al Rayyan Traffic Department, followed by Madinat Khalifa Traffic Department.
Qatar issued 16,361 work visas in June through its e-Government portal Hukoomi compared with 30,028 work visas issued in May — down by 45.5 percent.
A total of 22,320 new residency permits (RP) were issued in June compared with 29,099 in May.
The number of RPs cancelled in June was 2,849 against 16,999 in May. In June, 91,622 RPs were renewed against 107,376 in May.
The number of exit permits issued in June was 82,277 against 75980 in May. The number of births (Qataris and non-Qataris) in June was 2,172 against 2,061 in May.
Monthly statistics for June also show an increase by 6.9 percent in the number of visitors to Qatar from other GCC countries compared with the same period last year.
A total of 665,355 people from other GCC states visited Qatar in June compared with 622,322 in June last year. However, the number of visitors from other Arab countries dropped by 25.5 percent, with 121,090 in June from 162,642 in June last year.
The number of visitors from Asian, African and European countries also dropped significantly. However, the number of visitors from the Americas increased by 1.5 percent during the period.
The total number of visitors dropped by 5.6 percent from over 1.52 million in June last year to over 1.44 million this June.
