QF begins Ramadan events in Education City

Doha: Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) is hosting activities within Education City to bring together the wider community and enhance the spiritual, health and cultural well-being of all members of society throughout Ramadan.
Families and children of all ages and nationalities can take part in sporting, cultural and spiritual activities. Religious activities include daily lessons after Suhoor and Teraweeh prayers at the Education City Mosque, and after Asr prayers at the newly opened Msheireb Mosque in Downtown Msheireb.
The public is also invited to daily prayers and to break their fast after Maghreb prayers at the Education City mosque. Sporting and wellbeing events will be held at Oxygen Park. The venue will play host to families and the public on Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 8pm and midnight. As an exciting addition, Al Shaqab has organised an Equine Education Camp in its Indoor Arena for children and teenagers. QF have also arranged sports tournaments, including ladies table tennis, ladies volleyball, squash and cricket.
Cultural activities include a Ramadan Festival at the Education City Club House. It includes traditional entertainment and games for kids and adults. Cultural events include QF Radio Ramadan shows to inform and entertain the public.
Cultural public activities include Garangao, a traditional children’s festival, at Al Shaqab on June 17, involving traditional games and much loved pastimes for all the family.
“We are delighted to welcome members of the community to take part in our Ramadan activities. With activities catering to all members of the public and the whole family, we have ensured there is something for everyone. The events not only give the public a chance to learn and enrich themselves during the Holy Month, but also give the wider community the opportunity to engage; creating a lasting and deeper sense of community in Qatar,” said Fahad Saad Al Qahtani, President, Community Development, QF.
As a platform for community development, QF is committed to enriching the lives of all members of the community through educational and engaging activities that bring together the community and promote personal development.

REACH OUT TO ASIA
Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) has launched its Ramadan Project 2016, bringing together over 300 local volunteers to pack and distribute bulk groceries to more than 200 families in need across Qatar.
The Ramadan campaign, entitled ‘10 Years of Service’, marks a decade of support and commitment to members of the local community through activities to connect volunteers with the wider community and the true spirit of the Holy Month.
Over the past 10 years, ROTA, with the support of partners such as Social Development Centre, has worked to identify families in need and include them on the distribution list.
“The Ramadan Project has become an iconic annual event. This year is particularly special as it marks 10 years of community service with many new and like-minded individuals joining to make a positive difference to the lives of people in need,” said Mohammed Saleh, Director, National Programmes, ROTA.
The cost of bulk groceries has been covered by Occidental Petroleum Corporation (OXY) Qatar, which is sponsoring the Ramadan Project for the fifth consecutive year, while additional food items have been supplied by the Government Tender Committee.
Volunteers gathered to package food parcels containing items such as cooking oil, flour, lentils and milk powder distributed before the start of Ramadan.
The programme also provided beneficiary families with shopping vouchers to purchase other products from Al Rawabi Food Center outlets.
“I volunteering with ROTA. Working in a diverse team of volunteers to help families in need makes me feel proud of my community. Ramadan is a time for giving and this activity provides much needed assistance for these families,” said Saleh Alyafei, a volunteer. Volunteers will participate in community service activities, including community Iftars and the installation of computer labs for construction workers.
