Doha: After five days of fashion shows, workshops and discussions on beauty and health, Qatar’s trendiest showcase of traditional Arabic attire has come to a close, with a promise to return this October with the upcoming autumn/winter collection.
In its ninth edition, Heya Arabian Fashion Exhibition attracted thousands of visitors looking to refresh their Ramadan look with the latest collection of abayas, kaftans, jalabiyyas and accessories.
The event included competitions that involved visitors and participating outlets, and the entertaining Wanasa Night, which offered makeovers to visitors. This edition of Heya witnessed a healthy participation of designers from across the GCC.
Over 37 percent of the participants were Qatari designers, with 20 percent Bahraini, 17 percent Emirati and 16 percent Saudi designers. Nine percent of the designers were Kuwaiti, while others from outside the region represented Turkey and India.
Aisha Al Tayeeb, leading designer of the famous Qatari label — Al Motahajiba, said: “Our family has been designing Arabian garments for women for 30 years.
“We are regular participants in the exhibition and this year we presented a young, trendy look through our Ramadan collection. The inspiration was drawn from nature and our designs were based on flowers, blossoms and butterflies.
“We’ve had a lot of interested customers of varying ages who wanted to make their Ramadan purchase,” Al Tayeeb added.
We are also very pleased with the overall arrangement and organisation of the exhibition.”
Customers also expressed satisfaction with the wide range of choice collections and accessories and side events held daily.
“I am a regular visitor to Heya every year. There were different kinds of styles to choose from, at the different boutiques and I was able to find the abayas and evening gowns of my choice. I’ve picked up some clothes for Ramadan for me and some of my family members,” said a customer.
The exhibition was supported by strategic partners Qatar Chamber, Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship, Tasmeem, Intercontinental Doha The City, and Make Up District.
