Doha, Qatar: The Hamad Medical Corporation, HMC, has reiterated its efforts to tackle childhood obesity in Qatar, revealing that approximately 50 percent of children in the country are classified as overweight or obese.
In a social media post, HMC stated that statistics indicate 45 percent of girls and 55 percent of boys in Qatar are affected by excess weight, emphasizing the need for early intervention and healthier lifestyle habits among children.
The healtcare provider noted that its Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Department is providing comprehensive treatment pathways for children aged between 5 and 14 years with services that include laboratory testing for thyroid function, vitamin levels, and lipids, as well as medically supervised treatments such as approved weight-loss medications and injections, when necessary.
"The Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Department offers tailored treatment pathways for children aged 5 to 14 years, integrating scientific precision with advanced behavioral and pharmacological solutions, so that together we can shape a tomorrow filled with health and well-being," it said in a social media post.
HMC added that the program also focuses on educational and behavioral therapy sessions for families, encouraging healthy nutrition, regular physical activity, proper sleep routines, and reduced screen time.
It encouraged continuous medical follow-up, growth monitoring, and tracking of obesity-related complications as part of a long-term approach to improving children’s health and wellbeing in Qatar.
HMC also stated that its helpline number 44396980 will be available from 7am until 3pm for inquiries from patients under follow-up.
